Hekima ya Mungu Iniongoze
SEVERINE NIWEMUGIZI is a Tanzanian Prelate of the Catholic Church who has been the bishop of Rulenge which later became Rulenge-Ngara diocese since 1997. He was born in 3rd June, 1956 at Kayanza, Biharamulo in Kagera region. He was ordained a priest in 16th December, 1984. After his ordination, he was assigned to be a tutorial assistant at Segerea Senior Seminary in Dar es Salaam (1985-1986). Then he became a teacher and formator at Katoke Seminary in Biharamulo (1986-1987). He did his further studies in Rome where he achieved his licentiate (1987-1989) and Doctorate in Canon Law (1989-1991). He also did his studies in UK where he achieved his Postgraduate Diploma in English law (1991-1992). Afterward he became the lecturer and formator at Segerea Senior Seminary in Dar es Salaam (1993-1996).
He was appointed the bishop of Rulenge diocese on 9th November, 1996 and his ordination to episcopate was 16th February, 1997. Apart from that, Bishop Severine has been involved in various positions as it is indicated below: He became the president of the Tanzanian Episcopal Conference, TEC (2000-2006). He was the member of the University Council, C.U.E.A, Nairobi (2008-2015). He became the chairman of St. Augustine University Council (2009-2009). He was the member of the Christian Social services commission (CSSC) and the Vice chairman of CSSC as well as the chairman, CSSC Board of Trustees (2000-2011).
He was the Chancellor of St. Augustine University of Tanzania (2009-2012). He became the Chairman of TEC Education Department and the Chairman of SAUT University Council (2009-2012). He was the Vice Chairman of TEC Health Department and the Pro-President of the Tanzanian Episcopal Conference (2012-2015). He has been the chairman, committee of religious leaders (Ngara) since 2017. He is currently the Chairman, TEC Audit and Ethics Committee (2015-2021) as well as the Chairman of the Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (2020- ).
